Nuclear power without waste
mrFusion is a Danish startup developing technologies for fusion energy
Our vision is that fusion energy can have pivotal impact on human prosperity by providing sufficient safe energy. From a societal perspective, the most important aspect of fusion energy is that it can provide an enormous amount of CO₂‑free energy using very few resources. This makes large‑scale electrification possible without impacting the surrounding environment.
The fusion era has begun
Fusion can deliver clean energy continuously, independent of weather or season. The fuels, hydrogen and boron, are neither rare nor difficult to extract. Fusion is a stable, clean, and safe energy source.
No toxic waste
mrFusions solution is designed to deliver aneutronic fusion - fusion without radioactivity. When hydrogen and boron fuse, the only byproduct is helium. It is an energy source with no risk of pollution, meltdown, or nuclear weapons proliferation.
Directly from fusion to the power outlet
With mrFusions solution, the energy from the fusion process is converted directly into electricity. No water is required, and water ecosystems are not affected by fusion.
Nuclear energy is the most efficient energy source that exists. It is 10 million times more efficient than chemical processes such as burning coal, oil, and gas.
In practical terms, as little as 10 grams of boron in a fusion reactor can deliver as much energy as 20,000 litres of oil.
That corresponds to five years of electricity for a Danish household.
We distinguish between fission and fusion when we talk about nuclear energy. In fission, heavy atomic nuclei are split apart to release energy from the heat produced. In fusion, light atomic nuclei are instead fused together to generate energy.
E = mc²
Albert Einstein’s famous formula from his special theory of relativity shows that mass is not constant but can be converted into energy. Nuclear energy is so powerful that a small amount of mass can be transformed into an enormous amount of energy.
At mrFusion, we work with an experimental approach based on first principles of problem‑solving. The image shows an experiment involving plasma confinement.
My name is Niels Grundsoe. I am the founder of mrFusion. We develop unique solutions for plasma confinement. We work on reducing radiation losses and turbulence to address the challenges of proton–boron fusion and deliver aneutronic fusion energy.
